Yes, I think that’s a great point: embracing the decision either way.

It can be hard to allow myself space and I do get overwhelmed when there are too many events together that I feel I have to go to. I also read about feeling a resistance if we do decide to go which resonated with me and it is better to have an attitude of making the most of it if we have decided there is more benefit in going than not. So I suppose the opposite is true make the most of our time if we decide not to go and not feel guilt or regret when we have weighed up the decision consciously. Thanks Hannah.

Thanks Hannah, am sure I will be quoting you at some point!

Comment on How to Be Kind to Yourself When You Don’t Like How You’re Feeling by Dave Cenker https://www.becomingwhoyouare.net/how-to-be-kind-to-yourself-when-you-dont-like-how-youre-feeling/#comment-2016 Wed, 06 Jul 2022 15:07:53 +0000 https://www.becomingwhoyouare.net/?p=17508#comment-2016 It’s ironic how we take this meandering path to end up where we are. Along the way, we’re certain we’re on a direct line to where we intend to go, but it’s only in hindsight that we notice (and appreciate) that it’s the wandering that allows us to discover what it is we’ve been searching for all along.
I’ve been allowing my mind to wander to different and ancient philosophical thoughts dealing with Buddhism, Taoism, and Stoicism. And even though they’re all different, they’re also all the same.
The message you share in this post resonates with me, both through the podcasts/teachings/philosophies I’ve recently embraced, along with that intangible gut feeling that I have about what’s “right” for me in my heart.
Perspective is key. Even more so is self-awareness. To me, it’s the root of everything else you talk about: self-compassion, self-acceptance, growth.
This too shall pass. It’s a common phrase that people toss around casually. But when we think about these four little words when we experience difficulty, it releases a huge weight off my shoulders. And your thought about allowing these emotions to ride along as a passenger instead of being the driver is a brilliant and much appreciated perspective that solidifies my thoughts about this idea even further.
While I am having quite a difficult time in developing a meditation practice, I’m hoping to use your journaling prompts and ideas to establish a different type of self-awareness and development practice for myself. And as a fellow author (albeit in the fiction realm), I truly appreciate you sharing your thoughts and gift with the world.
